Courage And Resilience (Part 2)

 Another personal reflection

I suspect Resilience is thought to be the same as Courage, or nearly so. I'm confident people who have a chronic condition know the difference between these two. It does take resilience to try to get up once more when recovering from an event with a beginning and an end. Even when there is no desire to do so.

However a different type of Resilience seems needed when a person has a chronic condition that hangs around...for years. I'm not inferring the Resilience for short-medium term incidents is of lesser importance than that needed for chronic conditions. I just think they are different. I need both to live life. In my case, the need to get going again (however tentative) as best I can when my chronic conditions go off the rails,is essential. Especially when it's tempting to give up. The scary bit is honestly not knowing if that Resilience is there when I need it-like getting out of bed in the morning. I'm not kidding.

My understanding of Courage and Resilience comes solely out of my need for both. I guess living through every day is my ‘uni’ degree along with my Psychologist and his scholarship. I suppose there are many whose experiences are similar to mine. Perhaps yours also.
