A young voice in a recent aged care commercial told me 'Age is only a number'. Really!! Here I am thinking it has a fair bit to do with the body being one more day older today than it was yesterday. I'm pretty sure anyone with a chronic condition, believes ageing is so much more than being 'only a number'.
Those of us who are chronically unwell, know what it means to age way ahead of our calendar birthdays. A chronic illness in one part of my body, has a very bad habit of affecting other parts of my body and mind. This morning I met a brave elderly gentleman who is chronically unwell, yet he still tries each day to do the best he can with what he's got. He lives an excellent life, regardless of his health.
I don't like looking in the bathroom mirror each morning. It's an uncomfortable reminder that ageing is an inevitable process affecting all of me. I can put up with some aspects of ageing. Other aspects I wouldn't miss at all. And I suspect I'm not alone in thinking this way.
