The Necessity of the Ordinary

2020 has many names, none are complementary. Not one. Covid 19 has invaded every life, directly or indirectly. Ordinary rhythms or routines of the day are not quite as ordinary as they used to be. Those of us with chronic conditions know what happens if the rhythm of taking meds or food is disrupted. If you don't know about this, fear not-you haven't missed out on anything. I accept for some 'ordinary' is code for 'totally boring'. I don't doubt doing the same thing in the same way for long enough, really is totally boring. Yet to expect life to always be exciting and entertaining may well be the result of too much TV.

Being one who has chronic health matters, I'm very aware of the untold thousands who are unlikely to recover from their conditions. Ordinary routines and rhythms in the day are essential to having the best possible quality of life. I also realise just how hard it has to be for anyone blessed with good health to understand the universe in which we others live. EG. We received a kind invite to lunch this weekend-2hrs drive away. My 2nd thought was of the 2hr drive back home. A long time in the car for me. Sounds selfish but this is how things are now. So when folk with the best intentions say, "I can only imagine how you feel" I am okay to reply, "No you can't." And to be fair, nor can they. So, I am learning oh so slowly, Ordinary is necessary because it has to be. For me, Ordinary is a series of stepping stones that help make happiness and joy possible. I wonder if this is a life-long lesson. I suspect it is.
