You could be forgiven for expecting it will be 'chronically painful' for
you to read and consider what follows. But my hope is that it isn't too
unbearable to read about the different aspects of chronic pain affecting
millions of us.

The Lawnmower and Me

The lawnmower and I get on pretty well really especially when it's doing what it should. The whipper-snipper too for that matter. I like a neat, clean-cut, tidy lawn. A bit of TLC to both machines and they usually start first time. OCD? Probably. The thing is, my body is not as enthusiastic about a morning in the yard as is my mind.

Those bits of me that argue with arthritis know what's coming over the following few days and they don't look forward to it at all. They have a point I guess, given my arthritis is worsening but life becomes even more complicated if I give up on the mower. So with my wife telling me when I've veered off the cut line (and that is often) I eventually get the job done. Mowing the lawn is one of my little vision tests I use to check on my sight loss. As frustrating as these things are, they are better than me sitting in my chair each day, digging myself into a very deep dark hole. So I look over my neat lawn daily, guessing when I need to get the lawnmower out again. I know very well what the bill is for this but it's worth paying. Not doing anything is much more expensive...in lots of ways.
