Earlier this week we decided to mow our lawn before Easter and the predicted showers. At the time we planned this we were looking over at the grass growing out of control at the front of our neighbour's place. They had been away for some time. We agreed to finish our lawn then start on the neighbour's place. A reasonable plan given I have a good idea what my pain gauge will read for jobs like this.
A few minutes after we started at the neighbour's place, another neighbour came over to give us a hand. I was pleased he turned up but I didn't think too much about what the 3 of us did until I came home. The 3rd fellow in our trio caught the idea of doing something worthwhile for his neighbour. What we did was no big deal really. Just a small kindness for a couple too far away to look after their place. But it was significant to me. We did something to help someone else. It was good medicine for us as well. There is no doubt we need plans and action on a national scale to address the virus but those plans have to be lived out on a one to one level if we are to get through these hard times. Come to think of it, why should it stop there when life is 'normal' again? Whatever 'normal' is.
