A Chronically Painful Blog

Giants live here

Yes, the blog had a long sleep while we were in Tasmania. Anyway back to it. A bit west of Huonville, Southern Tassie is the Tahune Forest. A magic place. I have seen old growth trees but I wasn't prepared for the massive giants I met up with there. It was a big shock. I'm not often stuck for words but I was that day. All I managed was, "Goodness me!" These majestic giants are overwhelmingly confronting. Standing at the base of these ancients, now thousands of years old and still alive, is very humbling. To me they represent extraordinary stability and quiet immense strength. Time isn't hurried in this place. The only sounds I recall are the wind way up in the treetops and the creek tumbling over a rocky bed. Oddly, these sounds added to the forest silence - if that makes sense. The more I looked and listened, the more I saw and heard, which is quite precious for one with little sight.

The word best to describe this place is - Glorious. It's restorative to be quiet in body, mind and spirit when in the presence of these natural treasures. In case anyone wonders, the trees didn't talk to me nor did I whisper to them. More like being with good friends who accept me as I am. Where quiet unhurried company is all that needs to be 'said'. I know many facing difficult situations can't go to Tasmania but any place that gives us quiet restfulness is very good medicine. Looking for and finding such a place is really worth the effort.
